PDF to editable HTML

Convert your PDF into a single HTML file with real headings, paragraphs, lists and tables. Edit it in any code editor or paste it into your website, instead of retyping the text by hand.

How to convert PDF to HTML

  1. Drop your PDF into the box or choose it from your device.
  2. If the PDF is password protected, type its password when asked so the file can be opened.
  3. Choose the kind of HTML you want: Editable web page or Exact look.
  4. Convert all pages or only a range such as 1-3, 5, and set the layout or picture quality options.
  5. Click Convert to HTML, check the preview, then download the .html file or copy the code.

Editable web page or exact look?

Editable web page rebuilds the PDF as normal HTML. Headings become h1 to h3 tags, bullet and numbered lists become real lists, tables become HTML tables, and pictures and links are kept. Choose it when you want to edit the words, reuse the content on a website, or make the text easy to read on a phone.

Exact look keeps every page as it appears in the PDF. Each page is shown as a picture with an invisible text layer on top, so you can still select, copy and search the words, and links still work. Choose it for brochures, certificates, forms and other designed pages where the layout matters more than editing.

What converts well, and what does not

PDFs made from Word, Google Docs or another text program convert best, because the text is stored as real characters. Single and two-column pages, lists and simple tables come across cleanly. The editable option does not copy text colours or background shapes, so the page uses plain black text on white. Use Exact look when those matter.

A scanned PDF is a picture of a page, so it has no text to extract. Scanned pages are included as pictures. To get the words out of a scan, use our Image to Text tool first.

Tips for better results

  • Convert only the pages you need. Smaller files load faster and are easier to tidy up.
  • Turn off “Include pictures” when you only want the text, for example to paste it into a blog post.
  • Turn off “Show each PDF page as a separate sheet” to get one continuous article instead of page-shaped sheets.
  • In Exact look, Standard quality gives a smaller file. Pick High when the PDF has small print.
  • To go the other way, save a web page or HTML file as a PDF with our HTML to PDF converter.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and converted inside your browser tab, so the file never leaves your device.

Is the result one file or a folder of files?

One file. Pictures are stored inside the HTML, so the page opens offline and you can send it, upload it or open it in any browser without a separate images folder.

Can I edit the HTML afterwards?

Yes. Open the file in any text or code editor, such as Notepad or VS Code, or paste the code into your website editor. The Editable web page option gives the cleanest code to work with.

Will the links in my PDF still work?

Yes. Web, email and phone links are kept in both options.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many PDFs you convert.
