Quick answer: To prepare for a job interview, research the company, match your skills to the job description, practise the most common questions out loud with a time limit, and prepare 3 short stories using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). This free tool lets you do all four in one place.

How to use this interview practice tool

  1. Choose a category: general HR questions, behavioral, customer service and sales, freshers, Gulf and overseas jobs, or IT.
  2. Press Start timer and answer the question out loud, as if the interviewer were in front of you. Recording yourself on your phone helps even more.
  3. Open Show tip to compare your answer with what interviewers look for, and jot down key points in your notes.
  4. Use the STAR builder for “Tell me about a time…” questions, then tick off the checklist the day before.

What is the STAR method?

STAR is the simplest way to answer behavioral questions clearly. Describe the Situation in one sentence, the Task you had to do, the Actions you personally took (this should be the longest part), and the Result, ideally with a number such as “cut waiting time by 30%”. A good STAR answer takes about one to two minutes.

Top mistakes to avoid

  • Memorising a script word for word; it sounds robotic. Remember key points instead.
  • Speaking negatively about a previous employer or manager.
  • Saying “we” all the time; interviewers want to know what you did.
  • Not asking any questions at the end.
  • Giving a salary number without researching the market first.
