Free Barcode Generator Online (Code 128, EAN-13, UPC)

Create printable barcodes for products, inventory, shelves and labels. Download PNG or SVG, or print a whole sheet. Free, no sign-up.

Barcodes are drawn in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

Quick answer: Choose a barcode type, type the number or text, and download the barcode as PNG or SVG. Use Code 128 for your own inventory labels and EAN-13 or UPC only for retail products with a registered GS1 number.

How to generate a barcode online

  1. Select the barcode type that matches where the code will be scanned.
  2. Enter the value. For EAN and UPC you can leave off the last digit; the check digit is calculated automatically.
  3. Adjust bar width, height and colors if needed. Keep dark bars on a light background.
  4. Download PNG for documents, SVG for professional label printing, or paste several values into batch mode and print them all on one sheet.

Do I need to buy a barcode number to sell in stores?

Generating the barcode image is free, but the number inside an EAN or UPC barcode must be unique worldwide. Supermarkets and marketplaces such as Amazon usually require numbers licensed from GS1, the official barcode organisation in your country. For your own stock, shelves, library books, tools or event tickets you can use any Code 128 value you like, such as SKU-1001.

Tips for barcodes that scan first time

  • Print at 100% scale; never stretch the image unevenly.
  • Leave a clear white margin on both sides of the bars.
  • Use black or dark blue bars. Red bars cannot be read by most laser scanners.
  • Test with a phone scanner app before printing hundreds of labels.

Frequently asked questions

Is this barcode generator free for commercial use?

Yes. You can download and print the barcodes for any purpose, with no watermark and no sign-up.

What is the best barcode for inventory?

Code 128 is the best general choice. It is compact, supports letters and numbers, and every modern scanner can read it.

Why does my EAN-13 barcode show an error?

EAN-13 accepts digits only. Enter 12 digits and the 13th check digit is added for you, or enter all 13 digits and the tool checks that the last one is correct.

Can I make many barcodes at once?

Yes. Paste one value per line into batch mode, then print them all on one page or download them individually.

Can I scan these barcodes with a phone?

Yes. Any barcode scanner app can read them, as long as they are printed clearly with enough contrast and margin.

Is a barcode the same as a QR code?

No. A barcode stores a short number or code in one direction, while a QR code is two-dimensional and can store links, WiFi details and much more. Use our free QR code generator for that.
